Saturday 25th January 10.00am – 4.00pm [walk]
[4.25/4.5 miles – please wear suitable footwear and clothing – it could be wet and windy]

Children need to be able to walk the whole route, over and across [at times] steep ground.
Sorry no dogs

Meeting at 10.00am: at The King’s Arms, Portesham [TBC] for an introduction to the walk and using recording equipment [cup of tea or coffee provided].

The Walk will begin at 11.00am.

Portesham to Portesham Withy Beds – fairly level, but wet (and muddy) in woods.

Portesham Withy Beds to White Hill – moderately steep from the valley bottom up along the escarpment.

White Hill to Abbotsbury – downhill.

2.00 – 2.45pm: lunch in The Old Schoolhouse Tea Shop [TBC].

Abbotsbury to Portesham – level, mostly open ground.

3.30 – 4.00pm – tea/coffee at The Kings Arms [TBC] – debrief and outline Sunday in the studio.

Please bring writing and sketching tools (if you wish) to record your thoughts. We will supply notebooks, which will form part of the project archive. A selection of which will be available for viewing online.

Things to think about and respond to on the walk:

What is your personal reaction to the landscape and how does it make you feel?

‘why is this path here?’

‘why do people like walking?’

Environment – the geology – the flora – the animals and insects – the weather – the views

History – tradition – stories – myths
