Saturday 19th October 10.00am – 5.00pm [walk]
and Sunday 20th October 10.00am – 3.30pm [sound editing]

[contact: info@divacontemporary.org.uk to book a place for both days – places limited].

David Rogers and Mandy Rathbone will lead the sound walk, followed by a sound editing workshop on Sunday 20th at DIVAcontemporary Studio Bridport.

Saturday 19th October 10.00am – 5.00pm [walk]
[5.5 miles – please wear suitable footwear and clothing – it could be wet and windy]

Children need to be able to walk the whole route, over and across [at times] steep ground.
Sorry no dogs.

Meeting at 10.00am: at The King’s Arms, Portesham for an introduction to the walk and using recording equipment [cup of tea or coffee provided].

The Walk will begin at 10.45am. [please bring a packed lunch].

Portesham Village, including the church and village pond.

Portesham to Black Down (Hardy’s Monument) – two strenuous climbs.

12.30 – 12.45:  refreshment stop at Hardy’s Monument.

Black Down to Hell Bottom – downhill, grassy slopes, uneven in places.

1.30 – 2.15pm:  lunch stop at Bench [please bring a packed lunch].

Hell Bottom to Portesham – steep climb, uneven ground along ridge, (poorly maintained) stiles
views across to Portland and Chesil – very exposed in wet and windy conditions.

4.30 – 5.00pm:  tea/coffee at The Kings Arms, Portesham – debrief and outline Sunday in the studio.

Please bring writing and sketching tools (if you wish) to record your thoughts. We will supply notebooks, which will form part of the project archive. A selection of which will be available for viewing online.

Things to think about and respond to on the walk:

What is your personal reaction to the landscape and how does it make you feel?

‘why is this path here?’

‘why do people like walking?’

Environment – the geology – the flora – the animals and insects – the weather – the views

History – tradition – stories – myths

Sunday 20th October 10.00am – 3.30pm [sound editing]
[DIVAcontemporary Studio full address and directions – please bring a packed lunch].
A hands on opportunity to edit your sounds from the walk and add them to the global soundmap http://aporee.org/maps/ – connecting your sound recordings to the places walked.

10.00am – meet at DIVAcontemporary Studio for sound editing workshop.

3.30pm – workshop ends.

The studio is situated in East Street car park and there are four parking spaces (numbered 1 to 4) outside the studio.
