Saturday 5th October 10.00am – 5.00pm [walk]
[4.25/4.5 miles – please wear suitable footwear and clothing – it could be wet and windy]

Children need to be able to walk the whole route, over and across [at times] steep ground.
Sorry no dogs

Meeting at 10.00am: The Old School House Tea Rooms Abbotsbury, for an introduction to the walk and using recording equipment [cup of tea or coffee provided].

The Walk will begin at 11.00am.

Abbotsbury to White Hill – uphill and moderately strenuous.

White Hill to Portesham Withy Beds – along the escarpment and moderately steep into the valley bottom.

Portesham Withy Beds to Portesham – fairly level, but wet (and muddy) in woods.

2.00 – 2.45pm: lunch Kings Arms Portesham [it is ok to eat sandwiches in the pub garden].

Portesham to Abbotsbury – level, mostly open ground.

4.00 – 5.00pm – tea/coffee at The Old Schoolhouse – debrief and outline Sunday in the studio.

Please bring writing and sketching tools (if you wish) to record your thoughts. We will supply notebooks, which will form part of the project archive. A selection of which will be available for viewing online.

Things to think about and respond to on the walk:

What is your personal reaction to the landscape and how does it make you feel?

‘why is this path here?’

‘why do people like walking?’

Environment – the geology – the flora – the animals and insects – the weather – the views

History – tradition – stories – myths

Sunday 6th October 11.00am – 3.00pm [sound editing]
[DIVAcontemporary Studio full address and directions – please bring a packed lunch].
A hands on opportunity to edit your sounds from the walk and add them to the global soundmap – connecting your sound recordings to the places walked.

11.00am – meet at DIVAcontemporary Studio for sound editing workshop.

2.45pm – workshop ends.

The studio is situated in East Street car park and there are four parking spaces (numbered 1 to 4) outside the studio.
